The SWeLT Scheme has been set up to assist Private Sector Landlords, Tenants and Owners across the 3 districts of Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane and West Somerset.
This new scheme is a partnership between Councils and agencies who offer private sector landlords, tenants and owners unique access to a range of local housing products, services and support.
SWeLT services are free and specialist teams are on hand to offer you personal advice and support covering a wide range of housing topics.

The website will ensure that useful information is updated on a regular basis. We will also advise you of enhancements to our exciting range of incentives such as the Bond Deposit Scheme, Grants which help landlords bring properties back into use or up to a Decent Homes Standard, plus details of a new Management Service which guarantees a rental income.

HMO's - Latest update
A HMO is considered to be licensable if all of the following apply:
At least five tenants live there, forming more than one household
You share toilet, bathroom or kitchen facilities with other tenants
Please see the prescribed description from the Secretary of State on the Legislation.gov.uk website.
A household is either a single person or members of the same family who live together. A family includes people who are:
Married or living together (including people in same-sex relationships)
Relatives or half-relatives for example grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings
Step-parents and step-children
The Local Housing Authority is responsible for enforcing Homes in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and we inspect properties during the period of the licence HMO Licensing Requirements and how to apply Inspections may also be part of an improvement program or following a complaint. If you're a tenant and have a housing safety issue, we advise that you raise this matter to your landlord at the earliest opportunity. Wherever possible we'll work with you and your landlord to improve the property but if this fails we can use enforcement powers.
