Tenant Accreditation

Bridgwater YMCA is delivering a Tenant Accreditation Scheme as part of a project in partnership with Sedgemoor District Council to increase young people's ability to access housing and sustain a tenancy. The course enables a young person to navigate their way through the responsibilities and needs of having a home. The scheme is available to anyone over the age of 16. Referral sources include Housing Advice Team, RSLs, Landlords, Supported Housing, Leaving Care Team, Local Service Teams and local Colleges.

  • The modules are:
  • Finding and Applying for Housing
  • The Moving Process
  • Budgeting
  • Looking After your Home
  • Looking After Yourself
  • Help what do I do if?

The course can be taught in groups or on an individual basis.

The content of the modules covers topics such as:

  • Homefinder Somerset, Choice Based Lettings 
  • Anti social behaviour & noise nuisance 
  • Influences that may be a risk to a tenancy 
  • Where to go if you are in need of support or help 
  • Finding housing
  • Setting up utilities 
  • Tenancy agreements
  • Tenant responsibilities 
  • Managing money
  • Paying rent / bills 
  • Damage / repairs
  • Being healthy

When you have completed the course it is recorded on your Homefinder account, to show landlords that you have been through the scheme.

You will also receive a certificate to show Private Sector Landlords.
