Choice Based Lettings - Homefinder Somerset Homefinder Somerset This link opens in a new browser window

West Somerset, Sedgemoor and Taunton Deane Councils are part of a scheme called Homefinder Somerset.

What is Homefinder Somerset?

Homefinder Somerset is a way of finding a home to rent which lets you select the home you would like to be considered for.

It is a partnership of local authorities and housing associations who are working together to make the process of finding a home simple and transparent for all applicants across Somerset.

Partners are:

  • West Somerset Council
  • Mendip District Council
  • Sedgemoor District Council
  • South Somerset District Council
  • Taunton Deane Borough Council
  • Housing Associations in the Homefinder Somerset area
How the scheme works

Anyone looking for social housing anywhere in Somerset now only has to complete one application form and their needs will be assessed against the same clear set criteria.

Applicants choose which social housing vacancies they wish to be considered for by placing a 'bid' - expression of interest bid NOT a money bid - on properties which they are eligible for by size. Applicants can bid on a maximum of three properties per week.

Important Changes to the policy

Please note that we are only able to accept applicants onto the register where the applicant has a local connection to the Homefinder Somerset area.

To establish local connection you will need to have:

  • Lived in the area for six out of the last twelve months, or
  • Lived in the area for three out of the last five years, or
  • Permanent employment in the area (more than sixteen hours), or
  • An offer of permanent employment in the area (more than sixteen hours), or
  • Close family relatives (mother, father, sister, brother) living in Somerset for the last five years, or Demonstrated a need to move to the Homefinder Somerset area to give or receive essential and critical medical or other support where significant harm would result if this was not provided.

How to apply
